Every year we organise a community day, with a focus on improving our environment and engaging with topics and issues of local interest. In the morning we get together to clean up litter in our streets. Volunteeers are rewarded with a special lunch in St Richard’s Hall. In the afternoon we usually organise activities on a theme of particular local interest.
Community Day 2019 is on Saturday July 6.
Programme for the Day
10.00 – Cleaning our streets: meet at St Richard’s Hall, Swallowfield Road, where you will be allocated to teams to tidy up part of our area – usually one or two streets per group. We will provide, courtesy of RBG, gloves, hi-viz jackets, litter picking tools and binbags.
12.30 – Free Lunch for all volunteers
2.00 onwards – two events in parallel:
Freecycle trail – you are invited to place items you no longer need in your front garden with a notice to say you are willing for people to take them away. If you want to take part, send your address to firstname.lastname@example.org or text Jodie on 07823777152 and we will create a list of sites people can visit. Please note that you are responsible for any items not taken away and you should not leave them outside after our event has finished.
Greening Treasure Trail – a family quiz, where entrants are invited to follow a trail round our streets and answer some questions about plants and trees in our area. There will be prizes for winningt entrants. Full details and questionnaires will be available at St Richard’s Hall on the day.
