CCRA are embarking on a new venture with Charlton Church of England (St Lukes/Thomas/Richards) to provide a new community service to our neighbourhood.  On the last Tuesday of the month, between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm in St Richard’s Hall, Swallowfield Road we will be running a new Community Café.

The Community Café is more than just a pop-in place to have a cuppa.  It is a place to meet up with old friends and make new ones.  The Café will be walm, cosy and entertaining.  It is a place to indulge your interests in a convivial atmosphere.  Come along and have a cuppa whilst doing some knitting, having a game of chess, cards, scrabble or practice a craft.  Alternatively, you can just pop in for some cake and conversation.  All are welcome so come along and meet your neighbours.

The Knit and Natter group specialise in charity knits but anyone can come along with their own project and get support and technical advice. Come along if you are an experienced knitter or someone seeking to learn this remarkable craft. If you want to know more about the group contact Brenda brendataggart49@gmail.com or ring 07939090676.

ABOUT THE GROUP

The group meet once a month, but coming to meetings is not essential to being part of the group. We have members who cannot make meetings but who love to contribute to our charity knits by knitting at home. You don’t have to be a great knitter to come along. We welcome those wishing to learn through to experts. We specialise in charity knits but anyone can come along with their own project. In the past we have knitted for the neo-natal unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich (blankets and toys), the London Ambulance Service (storks), our local care home (dementia fiddle muffs), Age UK (Innocent Smoothie hats), HomeStart Greenwich (finger puppets) and the Demelza Children’s Hospice (blankets). As well as knitting we do great cake and offer ‘top notch’ nattering. You don’t have to come along to knit – join us just for the nattering.

The CCRA Knit and Natter group are immensely grateful to the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Charlton Ward Councillors (Gary Dillon, Gary Parker and Linda Perks) who, along with the Co-op, have supported the group through their philanthropy.    We are also grateful to Rowan Wool who have assisted us with donations.  If you would like to donate wool or crafting equipment to the group or if you know of a charity who would benefit from our services then please contact Brenda on 07939 090 676 or email brendataggart49@gmail.com

Just before Easter we delivered Easter Bunny gifts to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Neonatal unit for the Spring Babies.  As well as being delighted at the Easter gifts, Sister Teri Stimson was grateful to have some new bespoke mitts and red hats.  The unit uses red hats for babies who need extra observations.

We have also made another donation of storks to the London Ambulance Service and these will be given to babies during their Neonatal Transfer.

Although we specialise in charity knits, one of our knitter undertook a commission from a very eminent puppeteer – a bespoke Lamb Chop puppet. The proceeds have been donated to CCRA to support our fantastic activities.

If you want to know more about how you can contribute to the charity sector, learn to knit or have a project in mind then contact Brenda on 07909 090 676 or email brendataggart49@gmail.com
